Words and phrases coined by Shakespeare Blake Meisinger
Throughout Shakespeare’s writing carrier he found times where he had to make up words or phrases to get the meaning of his story out. Some of these words are cater, bet, buzzer, drugged, and unreal. Many times when Shakespeare invented words he just took an old word and added a new ending. for example, in the word excitement he took the word excite and added ment to make it a noun. In all Shakespeare invented at least 1700 words by adding prefixes and suffixes or changing them from a verb to a noun or the opposite. Most of the phrases that Shakespeare invented were mostly insults. for example sweep on you fat and greasy citizens, o viper vile, mad mustachio purple-hued malt worms and many, many more. Also shakespere made up phrases like to be or not to be that is the question, o Romeo, Romeo. Wherefore art thou Romeo? Although many of shakesperes phrases are very famous they are not usually used in comon language
